Default New battery powered speaker: Mackie Thump Go

New product from Mackie just released:

8” 2 channel 17lb 200W Class D amp w/ removable 12 hour Lithium-Ion battery, bluetooth, & app. Pole mountable & 45 degree wedge format. $399 @ Sweetwater!

(Can someone please do the pictures add thing)

Wow, technology is catching up. I had a feeling there would be a slew of new battery amps post lockdown 1.0. This is NOT looking good for us gear-addicts bank accounts!

Edit: So obviously maybe not 100% geared to acoustic amplification. Lack of manual EQ/effects controls - the Mackie Thump Connect 2 app (not yet released on the app store) hopefully addresses all this, but until then the verdict is out. If so, could still be a cool tablet controlled dual 8” mains on pole setup no power cord needed & possibility to link the two with a wireless transmitter. I know there’s others out there but the $399 price tag is right. I’m just excited/imagining the possibilities of the future - I’d take a battery powered 8” QSC any day and retire from acquiring gear. I know we’re not there yet as far as a 1000-2000watt internal capable battery though..

No reverb will be a deal breaker for many here. Seems like a direct competitor to JBL Compact. Same weight 17.6 lbs/form factor, both 8" woofer, both rated over 112dB. Both JBL Compact and Bose S1 Pro have gone up $50 recently. Bose $649, JBL $575. $399 is a good price for this battery/Bluetooth/App controlled type speaker. Mackie reliability is to be seen?

I’m still interested.

Yes looks to be more geared for DJ’s not musicians so in that case a small mixer for reverb and more channels anyways.

Mackie claims 200 watts and 115db max spl. Verdict is out wether it will be observably louder in real life vs it’s competitors but that would be a good thing. Especially if you pair two together for the price that could be a **** good battery operated setup!

I play instrumental music with one instrument only so this could be perfect for me or those like me. I’ve only been asked to announce via microphone like 3 gigs out of many many many and again with two units I could plug a mic into the second unit. It would be cool to use Mackie’s new wireless mic system to chain two Mackie Thump Go’s together without having to use cables, but again verdict is out since the gear isn’t out we won’t know if there will be issues.

Holding out for now! Hope for the best.
