NGD Hofner Classic Steel CS-7
So, found myself in a great guitar store (Kees Dee, Amersfoort - visit if you're in NL) and came away with a brand new, German, hand built guitar. The crossover Hofner Classic Steel model. It features all European, non protected woods, for example 'bog oak' fingerboard. The side and back are laminated spalted maple, for strength and stability, finished in nitro satin. The top is beautifully grained AA Alpine Spruce - it's finished in natural resins/wax (like violins).
Now, to the sound: even with its small body it's surprisingly loud. With standard phosphor bronze strings it's very punchy and even a bit boxy: great for folk and blues. But, I wanted to go full 'crossover' so I put on a set of the unique and wonderful John Pearse JP116 folk strings. It's an absolute gem now. A real keeper. The sound is exactly like a blend between steel and nylon string guitar. Warm but present - not muddy at all. What I've been looking for for years now! It also has a pickup and soundhole volume control. Later editions of the same model have a MiSi pickup system, I believe this one is by K&K, but am yet to find out. Haven't tried it amplified yet. All in all, very pleased with this unique guitar, gave me a new song right away. And now I own two acoustics made in Europe!

I like how they did the rosette, basic yet a bit fancy.

Thanks folks, the workmanship is very good, agreed that the rosette looks clean but elegant. Shame I can't share any pictures. Flickr isn't supported?
