Default NGD! Yamaha FS5

I decided a while back that I want a concert size acoustic. 00, 000, or OM. I just missed a great deal on a Collings 002h 14 fret this week here because I waited to long to decide. So now I am saving up for a great one. Probably a Collings or
H&D.

I want to spend time this coming winter on getting better at finger style so I ordered a Yamaha FS5 to hold me over! I only found one in stock anywhere at Chicago Music Exchange. This will be my first new acoustic in about 8 years. I am very excited!

I will post a review once received and I spend some time with it.

UPDATE:
She showed up on time yesterday! I am very impressed with this guitar - especially for the price. It is everything I was hoping for and more. It has better tone in real life than the best YouTube reviews. Just the right amount of modern mixed with traditional woody Hog tone. It sounds broken in already. Great strumming or finger picking. The neck is fantastic with the slightest v - a little more substantial than the new Martin necks. It is light and lively with great sustain and overtones.
I need to swap the strings out with some Nickel Bronze and spend some quality time with it. If you are on the fence I say go for it with this one.

Smile Great Choice!

Congrats! A Yamaha FS5 is a great guitar! I own one. Its tone is rich, warm, and has good overtones. I think you’ll like it. It sounds as good as guitars twice its price.

You may not need to get your Collings or H & D after owning this guitar...just kidding! I’ve never played either so I wouldn’t know how lovely they’ll sound. Enjoy your new FS5 that’s coming!

Hmmm, a new guitar to hold you over while you decide on a new guitar...

I like the way you think, kid.

Congratulations

Yes he will fit right in.

A funny thing happened on the way to buying the guitar, I bought a guitar before I bought “the” guitar

I love my FS5. It is a great guitar. It is definitely worthy of the praise these guitars generally get. I’m sure you will enjoy it.

Glad to hear it arrived and that you like it! You should post a video of playing! I just put new strings on my FS5. Sounds amazing again!

I don’t have the gear to post videos with good audio. I may work on that this winter. Would be a fun.

What kind of strings do you prefer on yours?

Exactly the way I would described my FS5, probably due to its rich overtones, if it makes sense. Strange but I'm trying to curb its overtones a bit and will be using D'Addario NB (12-53) next. Now it has Retro Monels (11-52)...I feel they are too thin...but the tone is quite nice.

Enjoy your new Yammy! 8 years is a long time!

I generally use the Martin Authentic Lifespan 2.0 92/8 MA540T’s. They are the light gauge ones. Sometimes I use their uncoated equivalent too. I’m not too adventurous with strings these days. I just don’t have time to play with too many brands. Martin strings are easy to get and sound good, at least to my ears.

If you are a strummer and want more overtones, I think the 80/20 version of the Martin strings might sound more lush.

If I remember correctly, the guitar came with the 80/20 coated elixir’s. They weren’t bad. They started shedding on me after a month or so.
