It happens every night in some old beer joint
when the jukebox isn't playing anymore
check the bathrooms,then take out the garbage
wipe the tables down and lock the door

then i go outside- the streets are empty
the stop lights flash yellow everywhere
when I get home I'll watch a movie
sometimes I fall asleep in my old chair

a couple of the night girls made an offer
stop and see them instead of going home
I've shopped at that store and there ain't no bargains
tonight I think I'd rather sleep alone

the hours between closing and hard daylight
are sometimes tough and hard to just get past
when the rest of the world is eating breakfast
i am waiting for my day to end at last
