I use the Tenuto support for my classical and really like it. I use a Barnett support for my Hoffman steel string but that's primarily because its finish does not play well with the suction cups' material.

And here's an older article reviewing some of the options, including the Tenuto >

Here's an article about suction cups and finishes >

The Barnett guitar support is nice, but I just couldn't get it to work on my right leg. It seemed to raise the guitar too high on my right side.

I'm using the De Oro guitar support.

I do have a Barnett support for my Hoffman Jumbo whose finish gets damaged by suction cups, but I have had some issues with it. The depth of the waist between between the bouts, and the place I need to position the device to get my desired playing angle, yields a very sharp angle with one of the magnets. If the joint is not kept very tight, the magnet can pop off of the bout with only slight downward pressure. I keep an allen wrench stuck to the magnet for emergency use.

I still like it but it may not work on all body shapes. If the finish/plastic compatibility were not a problem, I would have stuck with the Tenuto support I use on my other guitars.

dkstott - did you try the standard or the short model?

lpa53 - If you are having trouble with the upper bout, I wonder if the anchor point should change, see arrows below. One for assumed pressure from leg, one for suggested upper bout attachment point. Can't go too far up the upper bout though.

Another approach is to move the lower bout lower, which would make both angles better on the support, but may not be the desired playing angle.

Thanks for your thoughts. However, the I have is with the leg on the lower bout, and after trying several other positions, found that this one is the only one I liked for playing comfort.

As long as I keep the joint tightened and don't lean heavily on the guitar, it works well.

After trying several other products, the DeOro GuitaRest has been my personal choice for years and years:

http://www.deoromusic.com/deoromusic...r_Support.html

I went through many that Strings By Mail (who I have done some business with, a great business, in fact!) carries; A-Frame, Dynarette cushion, ErgoPlay, Gitano, and Neck-up...for some reason they do not carry the DeOro product, which I found to have the most adjustability coupled with the best stability...for me, as "best" is always relative. YMMV.

Huh! Was there a guitar in that picture?

note: Barnett is now known as Sagework, but will take time to fully convert in lingo. It is listed as Sagework on the chart.
That is a very helpful page. Well done and the links to the products is a very good and useful touch.

Larry - Good call. We've ran across this in the past, not sure why we have never welcomed it aboard... but now glad to announce we will be stocking the De Oro line very soon after correspondence with the owner today. Nice addition!

I have both the De Oro and the Neckup. The De Oro seems a bit more stable than the Neckup but the Neckup seems more comfortable on my leg probably because I wear shorts a lot. Both work as advertised.
