Default Does ANYONE remember the group play alongs...

...that was featured about 10 years ago on CBS Sunday Morning?

The story was about groups being established in a few major cities where (mostly) acoustic guitar players were gathered for large community play alongs. The groups were lead by a small stage band and had some large AV screens set up with lyrics and basic chords.

(This was not the mass street gatherings featuring a single song.) I remember these being held in larger community area where they spread out armless chairs and had maybe 50 participants.

I've been staining my brain AND doing Google searches to try and come up with either the CBS Sunday Morning video or any other information about this. They had a website for the main developers for the "system".

I don't remember any of the specifics about WHO was doing it or the details of how they were organizing the gatherings. I think they were doing a "monthly" structured play along for all skill levels combined.

Hi Rudy.

Couple months ago I saw a YouTube video where rows of guitarists in auditorium seats were playing along with an amplified stage band. Ive not been able to find it again.

Perhaps you could sent an email or letter to CBS programming or archives?

Other folks who might remember the CBS events are old timers at music stores, music schools, university music departments, bluegrass jams, folk jams, Celtic jams, ukulele jams, etc. Each contact may be an able to suggest other sources.

In our metro pre pandemic there were three ukulele groups where 80-100 enthusiasts would play led by a stage band.

Our bluegrass society holds monthly ‘slow jam’ sessions where few dozen beginners are led by a semi pro quintet.

https://www.meetup.com is good way to find or start ‘music jam’ or ‘guitar jam’ groups.

Best regards
