Default I'll take a Lap Steel over a laptop computer any day!

This is a 1948 Gibson BR9 I got off Craigslist a couple years ago. Love it. About 30 years I had to sell my 1955 BR9 during lean times. This '48 is a dead ringer to the '55, although I suspect the pickup is a bit different somehow - although its tough to do an A/B test with 30 years between hearing A and B.

Lovely!

You've probably seen my '45 Supro 1400, but if you haven't...

That's a gutsy pickup.

Bob

I play lap steel, too. I have a '47 National New Yorker that I keep in E for blues and rock stuff.

For more acoustic things, I have a '60's Harmony Sovereign acoustic that needed a neck set so I put an extension nut on and added a soundhole pickup. I keep it in D and love it. I can get lost in that guitar for hours. It's great for thouse haunting moutain ballads.

Recently I picked up a '54 National D-8 console steel that needs some restoration. It'll be E7 on the front neck and C6 on the back. I've got a lot to learn on it, but looking forward to getting it playable.

I've always wanted one of those. Does yours have the 1.5" magnet pickup?

That would be pre WW II.

I'm a little confused with the transition times. I've seen bodies with pre-war logos that are dated as 1947 and beyond and wide-magnet models with the hinged peg head cover so I'm sooooo confused.

Vintage laps are great, but don't overlook the joy of playing yer own!

I've been thinking about picking up one of these but know zero about them.

Anyone know a good place to educate myself?
