Default String identification?

Hey everyone, was given my father in laws guitar recently, a Taylor. I've always used elixirs on my guitars but when I took his old ones off, I noticed they had colored balls on the end, but I couldn't find anyhing that matched his old ones. I'm curious what he was using because they felt really good before I changed them, just not very bright anymore. My thought was some kind of daddario and maybe he broke a string or two but any suggestion would be great!

Here's a picture of them

I'm not able to see the picture for some reason but D'Addario strings have colored ball ends and so do Cleartone strings. I believe the Cleartone colors do not coincide with the D'Addario colors, so that might give you a starting point.

Can't see the picture either. But I'd bet theynare Daddario. Take them into a music store. They'll tell you manufacturer and gauge

I can see the pic. They match Daddario except for the B and high e. Those should be purple and silver, respectively, not gold/brass.

Oli, welcome to the AGF! Like others have mentioned, D'Addario strings have colored ball ends so that's where I'd look.

Looks like d'a, Their color code is

Silver purple green black red brass / 1-6

I can't see your photo very well, however, it looks pretty clearly like the five string is Red

Hi Oli-phantom…

Sounds like a great time to acquire a few brands and do your own search & replace experiments.

The same strings sound different with different styles of play and different players.

Don't Taylors still ship with Elixirs?

The Elixir Nanoweb Phosphor Bronzes that I just put on my Emerald have colored ball ends. I wish I still had the packet so I could tell you the order of the colors.
