I think different makers and brands provide a good starting point in searching for the right guitar, but each instrument is an individual.

Generally, we make too many broad sweeping conclusions about different brands. What really matters is the individual guitar in your own hands.

Yeah, not sure why the poster keeps posting about wanting a D-28 when he doesn't like the look, doesn't like the sound, and claims his $100 MIC guitar sounds good to him.

Perhaps you have been hypnotized by an evil Martin dealer….

I know exactly, precisely, intimately what's going on. You have an 814ce in your sig. And I'm not even a psychiatrist.

Other than caving to marketing, I can't think of a reason why anyone would buy a guitar they didn't like. I also don't see why anyone would buy a D 28 if they thought their guitar sounded better.

All this is totally reasonable except for why he keeps posting about it. This is his third thread so far on this topic.

I don't like the look of the Gibson Hummingbird. Lots of people like that model. I don't keep creating threads about how I don't want to buy one.

The only reasonable solution: just buy a D-28 and be done with it. Sell it if you need to.

Here's the weird thing... I've played a couple reimagined D-28s, and I wasn't impressed with the tone / sound. Also, my $100 Mitchell looks nicer than the D-28 (to me). Pics of the Mitchell are below...

For some reason even though I'm not impressed with the tone, and the looks are boring (compared to other brands at $3000) I still want the D-28!

What's going on!?
Beatles and Martins? I may be mistaken but I did watch them live on the Sullivan show back in the day etc (I'm old) and I've never seen Lennon/McCartney bang on anything other than Gibsons.

Back in the late 90's I was in the same frame of mind.
I owned a great Martin D-35 but my buddies were all playing HD28 Martins.
I decided that I must need an HD-28 and not a D-25.

I put my D-35 on consignment at a local shop and was going to get the HD-28.
After paying a couple of HD-28's, I rushed back to the shop and rescued my D-35.
I still have and love it to this day.

Moral,
Just because another person likes, wants or owns a particular guitar, it doesn't mean that it is the right guitar for you.

If I’m mistaken, “Two of Us” was composed and performed by Lennon and McCartney on their respective D-28s.

Not that that should be a reason to buy one, but just for the record (no pun intended).

John and Paul both got D-28s in 1967 — the nice acoustic stuff on The Beatles would have been recorded with those guitars.

Maybe you really just want the attention a Martin D28 can give you.

Crikey, between that pic and this one:

Wouldn't the intonation be off given the saddle was still oriented for a right-handed guitar? Well, it didn't hurt his sound all that much
