Farewell, Al Schmitt
Recording engineer/producer Al Schmitt has passed away at 91. I followed his work throughout my career and recently read his autobiography, "Al Schmitt on the Record: The Magic Behind the Music." His first solo recording gig was Duke Ellington's son Mercer’s big band, with Duke managing the session. No pressure. He was still recording, last I had heard. More HERE. In the pic above he is operating the same model console I started my career on, a Neve 8058. Bob

Without the slightest bit of hyperbole, the man was nothing short of a legend.
