A little Guild help -
I know nothing about Guilds.
A friend of mine has one of these that was handed down to him from his father. He loves it plain and simple but knows nothing about it or do it yourself guitar work The action he says is too low for his tastes - he would like it a bit higher. Since he plays it primarily plugged in as a worship leader at church, I told him usually people want it as low as possible without buzzing and if it doesnt buzz, play it. He stated it buzzes only on occasion yet still, he’d like it a bit higher It was hard to tell by just glancing at it (I don’t touch other peoples guitars) if it could just use a tweak in the truss rod to get rid of the buzz but looked at the saddle and there was pretty much none left. Saddle appeared bleached and maybe had a little compensation built into it. Buzz might just be a truss rod tweak as he took off the old medium strings that was on it and installed some lights. Was thinking about ordering him a new saddle and installing it for him and just do a quick simple setup at that time. Went to the Colosi site and Guilds are not listed. Questions would be these: What model and approximate years were these made? What dimensions are the saddle if anyone knows? (It appears to be a drop in so that should be easy peazy) Thought I saw somewhere that the truss rod nut is 1/4” - should that be correct? Anything else I should know about these like fretboard radius? Thank you in advance for your input -

It looks like an F-50. I don't know enough about Guild to date it without a serial number and I believe those models were built from the 50s-70s (maybe even later?) so it's a pretty wide potential span.

Looks like it is a F-50 maple jumbo with unbraced arch back.
Hard to tell where it was made but I'd guess it's a Westerly Rhode Island build. Guild was bought by Fender and the Westerly plant closed in 2001 and production moved to Corona, California. Then Fender bought Tacoma Guitars and moved Guild production to Tacoma, Washington in 2004. Fender then bought Ovation guitars and closed the Tacoma factory and shifted Guild to New Hartford, Connecticut in 2009. Finally Fender sold Guild guitars to Cordoba in 2014 and production moved again to Oxnard, California where it remains today.

It's a Guild F50 maple. I owned a Guild F-50R, with rosewood back and sides for many years.
If the action is currently too low, that's a very good thing. Typically the Guilds need neck sets because the saddle (in this case it's WAY too low) can't get any lower. In this case you just need a new saddle, and Bob Colosi can absolutely make one for you, but you'd need to either give him the exact measurements of what is currently there, or send him the original to copy, except for the height. All this assumes that the neck relief is properly set for the gauge of strings that your friend wants to use. If you have a closeup of the back of the headstock with a serial number it's fairly easy to tell when the guitar was made. Best regards, Howard Emerson
