Default NGD: GMF Ai ProTube

Hello, my name is Mike, and I am an Audiophile. I have 22 tubes in my
Stereo audio system. I like tubes.

I just received a GMF AI ProTube DI/Preamp. To the point, I think this unit
is fabulous. i first heard about it in another thread a couple of weeks ago.
it is about 8" x4.5", has a mid freq control in the EQ section, and a phase switch.
IN the tube mode, it sounds wonderful. It does what you expect from tubes
without losing clarity. It does take up some room, i.e the power supply is
about the same size as my sunnaudio DI-2 ( a wonderful sounding di).

Price is $450....not cheap but worth checking out depending on your needs.
My comparisons & tests were done with a Goodall RSC with a Sunrise pickup.
I will put in my signature which lists much of my gear (except my other 8 or so preamps). Yes, I know that is 'sick'.

Did I say I like tubes? The Ai ProTube is my favorite sounding DI/Preamp I
have heard

Mike, where did you find one of these to purchase? I’d like to give one a try!

Oddly, last week there was "1 left" on Amazon that I bought. Jax Music was the seller. It is not on Amazon anymore. I saw no others for sale.

BTW, I just got home from using it at a gig for the first time .
Great sound with my Sunrise is easy to dial in. For my needs, I do miss a 'boost' switch...but that is easy to add.

Thanks for this rec! I too am a sucker for tubes. I built a 18 watt plexi clone for my electric. I use a Helix now, but really enjoyed the amp build.

My home stereo is a Willsenton all tube integrated (KT88 power tubes.) I need to sell my Yaqin EL34 integrated that the Willsenton replaced.

I have a tube buffer for my mag pickup for my acoustics.

So yeah, I'll happily chase this down!

I have the Sarno Black Box Tube Buffer. Nice and simple piece of kit. If I can find the GMF, I may sell the Sarno and use the GMF. I LOVE my ultrasound DI and the GMF is designed by the same guy.

Interesting preamp, but not shown in the store at the website so I wrote, asking about availability. Here's the reply from Greg Farres:

"It is out of stock. We make limited runs of this model. We wait until we have enough orders to make it make sense for us since the cost to make these is high.
Thanks,
Greg"

I'd be up for ordering one if we want to get a tally going.

Just bumping this to the top in case any of us want to go in o a group order. I'd be happy to organize and can start a new thread if that is best.

The Sarno Steel Guitar Black Box Rocks!

Steve, count me in on a possible group-effort-order nice price for the GMF AI ProTube DI/Preamp.

I’d be interested in one as well if a group order is put together.

I'll email them and see if I can cajole a response. I never heard back from them from my first email a few weeks ago.

Just a bump update: I've emailed Greg twice through his website, the second time letting him know that some of us on AGF are interested in a group buy.

I haven't been able to cajole a response. If anyone has another way to contact him, feel free. I'm game to order 1.

Thanks for the update, Steve. It looks like a nice product and I think Greg should pay more attention to his business if he's still in it?
