I prefer the shape and ergonomics of a Strat, but prefer the gutsy growl of a Tele for most applications.

I own both, but got the Tele first. If you can only buy one, I would recommend getting a Tele.

HSS strat. It is super versatile as it gives you the iconic strat neck and neck/middle sounds, and humbucker at the bridge.

The answer to this old question is always both. The one I love best is the one I'm playing at that moment. I always feel at home on a Fender neck.
Edited to say yes to the HSS Strat - I have a Lone Star Strat that's HSS too - great guitar. |

I’ve never been a fan of playing tele’s. I know they are enormously popular. They just aren’t my thing. Strongly prefer the Strat.
