I have a PRS McCarty Thinline in a gig bag since a shaped hard case is not available to my knowledge. If anyone knows of one I would appreciate the heads up. Thanks!

Flawed poll - it didnt really cover the options.

I greatly prefer a SKB-style hard gig bag (which is massively different than a gigbag)

+1 I have a rectangular hard case for my Strat but when I go somewhere (which is rare these days) it's in an SKB hard side bag. The LP and Semi hollows are fine in their fitted case(s).

Always been a fan of the red label Fender thermoplastic fitted cases.

except for fenders,, putting them in anything other than a black or tweed rectangle case,, well golly.. it just aint right!!!

4. Hybrid Hard Case, such as this hard molded closed-cell EVA case:

Similar ones are available from other vendors, in either shaped or rectangular styles.

OP, here. Poll results are in:

52% hard guitar shaped case
21% gig bag
12% rectangle hard case
12% other

Thanks for all of the input. I just ordered a Gator gig bag that appears to offer better protection than the much lower end bags. Based on your feedback and some research I think this should work for what I need, thanks.

Exactly!!

I like factory hard cases that are made for their particular instruments.

When I bought my Strat back in 1996 there was a choice of cases. My concern was having a good protective case. I tried the rectangular Fender case and the guitar shaped Red label Fender case. I went with the Red Label because it was a better fit where the rectangular case allowed for movement of the guitar within the case. I do however love the look of the rectangular Fender case. If I ever get my dream Fender I will choose a "period correct" rectangular case.

I voted rectangular hard but by default because that is what I have for my two electrics. ( A Fender limited edition Tele and a PRS CE 24) They are the Fender rectangle TSA compatible plastic style with the big rectangle shapes latches And interestingly my PRS fits perfectly in the Tele version
The gig bag that came with my PRS now serves as spacer padding between Electrics and Acoustics

I don't own a HSC for any of my electrics, I'm just not a fan.

When electrics leave my house (back in the days, a half year ago) for a gig, my concern is pack-ability. That's where a gig bag is superior.

Conversely acoustics never leave the house in anything but a HSC.
