Default iPad Recording Help

Hi all,
Somebody please drop some knowledge on me. I just purchased and iPad and the Alesis I/O dock. I have the Garageband app on the iPad. I basicallly just want to record some original songs ideas, a couple of guitar parts and vocals. Is Garageband the best app for this, or is there better one out there?
Also, when I plug my Cole Clark into the io and listen through the headphones there is a hum. My Ukulele with a lr baggs pickup does not have the hum. Any ideas.
Thanks for you help. I have been playing for 30 years or so but until now have never tried to do any home recording. Thanks very much.

I use Garageband and it's fair to middling. Not great, but it was only $5. If you find something else, I'd love to hear about it. There might be better but here's my problem with the App Store: I have to pay $10 or $20 or $30 just to find out most of the time. A lot of the multitrack apps I've looked at don't have a free/lite version - you just have to go on the screenshots and the previous reviews. Good luck with that...

Anyway, I don't know about the hum - my first thought was that there is some sort of impedance mismatch going on. Can you call Alesis and ask them? That's probably what I would do, I think.
