Default Foot Rest

Hello -
My foot rest broke a while back and I need to get a new one. Just curious as to what type and make you use? Recommendations?

Thanks,
Scott

Perhaps a good opportunity to try a guitar support instead - much better for your posture (less twisting).

Been using one like this for about 20 years now with no issues (my body or the stool)

I have a question here. I seem to have developed a bad habit of playing my guitar with it sitting on top of my left leg. In the same manner a classical guitarist does. ( I play nice steel string acoustics ) I also have been resting my left leg up on a little table or a stool to give me that 35/40 degree angle. I am almost to the point of not feeling comfortable without playing like this. uggg. question is what should I do. I see most acoustic players sit with there guitar on there right leg
1. get a foot rest
2. get a guitar support
3. get out the strap and stand
4. figure out how and practice to get that guitar over to the right leg
5. dont worry about it

I would usually play seated or standing, but I play at home in studio 90% of the time

thanks

....would be my vote.
You don’t sound like you’re having any issues, so why mess with something that seems to be working.
Don’t make any changes solely based on what you see other people doing. Only change if you feel it’s negatively impacting you in some way, which doesn’t seem to be the case.

I'm not comfortable playing any longer without left leg up and classical position. The footstools have 3 positions typically - makes it worth the 15 bucks to get something that can be adjusted and in a best position for you.

Just about every footrest I tried has broken or bent.

My personal preference is the De Oro guitar support. Mine has been in use for 3+ years with no issues.

Footrests went out of fashion with the last century. Fashion isn't a good word because footrests cause back problems and bad posture. They went out for an ergonomic reason. I won't throw footrests out just yet; these days they are set very low and used in conjunction with a guitar support. Sometimes, you just need to hitch your foot on something.

I love the Neck Up guitar support as it is made of genuine cowhide and smells like a good quality leather handbag from the likes of Gucci or Hermés.

A good posture will change the way you play your classical guitar. It is not as stylish as using a footrest but your back will thank you for it in time.

Default Thanks and A Question

Thanks for your comments. The Neck-Up has been intriguing for some time. It is suction cup held correct? Has it marred the guitar finish in anyway over time?

Thanks!
Scott

Here's a great review of several guitar supports by a very knowledgeable guy (who runs a great classical-guitar website):

I have looked at Neck-up and similar supports for awhile now, and can't see liking using them, so I just bought a foot rest to try. I am currently using a strap, which works pretty well, but am hoping to find something I like really well.
