This post is not for the faint of heart. Yes, there is guitar torture being performed. I asked Ben to squeeze it until it promised to make beautiful sounds:

BTW, I learned during my shop visit that Ben made all of those clamps LOL.

Tom...

It appears that you guys must now rename this guitar to Porcupine, or Sea Urchin, or some other “spine-related” name.

All joking aside, this is promising to be a fantastic-looking guitar. I’m quite taken with the beautiful rosette...and the way in which the diamond ever-so-subtly protrudes into the soundhole. Kudos to you both, as this has been a fun thread to catch up on. I can’t wait to see (and hear) the finished instrument.

Joel

Thanks Joel, appreciate it for sure! I too like that little diamond detail and it is made of snakewood, the same as the diamonds on the fingerboard.

For other reasons completely separate from the forum, I have had a great day today and then to top it off, I got a nice Email from Mr. Wilborn himself, with a series of beautiful pictures of a finished box!!!! Please enjoy and I hope your day was great too:

Final picture. I love it, the abalone, the snakewood, the layered purfling, notice the difference in width as the purfling goes out. Ben made all that in his shop. The little detail of the line in the sound port, the diamond rosette. Great details and pretty complicated binding and purfling job!

Well, in my defense, that was not suppose to happen!!!! The universe conspired either for me or against me depending on how you look at it so that they both got started at the same time. There was suppose to be at least a few months in between!

Thanks! I also have it on pretty good authority that this box is trying to be musical already, just a slight rub or tap is causing it to respond! Ben is pretty sure he likes this one!

This is beautiful Tom! I can't wait to hear how it sounds! I'm thinking you should get an RV and you and your wife can drive all your guitars our here so we west coast folks can meet you and your supportive spouse and your wonderful herd. We'd put you up, let you play some nice guitars!

Haha, that is funny, that was what I wanted to do for retirement and see what part of the country we wanted to settle down in, but I lost the vote, it was a tie, one to one, but somehow I still lost. Still trying to figure that out.

I may have something in the works that could help to accomplish both our goals, I will let you know more when I can!

Ben this is really magnificent!

Cheers
