I hate that CA went under, but I don't think there was ever a possibility of CA guitars appreciating in value. At best they might have held there value.

The reality is that no ones production guitars have gone up in value in the past 10-20 years, at best they have held their value, or only slightly decreased. When you factor in inflation they have almost all been losing investments.

What is really strange is I was 3 hours late from geting a CA Performer, but missed it as it was transferred to another GuitarCenter. I really wanted that guitar too.

Very sad news indeed! My CA is an essential part of my guitar arsenal, the ultimate no worries travel companion. A really nice sounding well built instrument that accomplishes what is impossible for a wooden guitar.

I feel for the folks at the company who have given their best to try to succeed by being innovative in a competitive industry. A shame.

So glad I took one off Ted three weeks ago.
I LOVE MY CARGO (This is Charcoal )

I cannot believe that it was a matter of demand.

Steve at Acoustic Music Works said he still has a few in inventory but he has a pile of custom orders that are unfulfilled. Bummer for all.
Grab while you can. Great guitars.

I'm saddened and surprised to hear this. I love my CA! I've done a ton of traveling with it in the past year that I've owned it. Their presence and products will be missed.

So what. Fender managed to kill Tacoma, and almost succeeded in murdering Guild. Give them time. Fender can only destroy so many brands at once.

Tacoma killed themselves. The company never turned a profit. They were essentially bankrupt when FMIC bought them. The building they were in was rented. The brand didn't have much following, and FMIC stripped the factory of it's assets and moved on. This is the fate of losers in industry.

I'm not a big fan of Fender in general, and they sure have made some stupid moves with Guild. Guild was headed down the road to ruin when Fender bought them. They've kept the brand alive and continued to produce good guitars, what the future holds is anybody's guess.

I really feel for the employees. I love my Cargo and just picked up an OX over at the CA forum. Have no idea if I will like it, but wanted to give it a go while I could still get one.

Bummer.....

Polls at this forum have indicated that the interest in carbon fiber guitars is very high, and a lot of us (myself included) have made a purchase.

Rather than poor sales, my guess would be high expenses during a period of poor cash flow. Undercapitalization has killed many good companies. You need deep pockets to make it through the rough patches.
Hate to tell you this, but internet forums are an anomaly. The demand for these guitars is not as high as forums and message boards would seem to show.

I have family in the Lafayette area, and a nephew who worked at CA for a while. He was telling me back in December that he thought the company was in trouble. He said they had a very high rate of guitars that were "recycled" due to flaws and other QC issues, so much so that it really hurt their production numbers. I think they had lost some of their more talented employees, and were having trouble replacing that experience. He said some other things too, but I won't go into that, as it's just hearsay.

Wanted to add that I hate it for the employees and owners and hope that they can find other employment quickly.

True -- that's why Yamaha, Cort, and Samick outsell Martin, Taylor, et al.

But CA was a relatively small builder. They made a few guitars a day. I think demand was sufficient to absorb their production.

I wouldn't be surprised if their demise was unrelated to demand. (I've been watching one dealer's inventory get smaller by the minute as people have been buying up the last available guitars.)

For a company to be successful, a lot of things have to go well. If something goes awry (like venture funding, a credit line, a production snafu, etc), bad things happen.

The question I answered was how deep are Kaman's pockets.

The answer is that Kaman has no pockets because the pockets belong to Fender.
