There has got to be a crock of gold in that wall. Very nice

Lately I've been searching out a lot of terrain and snow out-of-bounds wherever I've been skiing, and this has led me to take up Alpine Touring, or more simply, backcountry skiing. The idea is that you climb up the mountain on regular skis, but with bindings which come free in the heel on the climb up. The boots also are much lighter and have a "walk" mode which allows a great deal of flexibility at the ankle, as well as Vibram soles which allow you to hike/climb if you need to.

This is a couple weekends ago near Donner Pass in the Tahoe area with a group of 5 of us. Fantastic day, good people and I learned a ton about snow conditions and how to identify danger areas for the different kinds of avalanches possible in the area. I'm excited to get a few more outings going this spring. Caught some pretty decent photos on the iPhon.

Nice. With any snow left in north side shade, ski area or 2.5+ hours of driving, I've switched to trail riding.

Behind Great Sand Dunes National Park in south central Colorado is the Great Sand Dunes National Preserve. On Sunday we hiked to Lower Sand Creek Lake, a stunning setting with Tijeras Peak looming above.
