Hmmm. Without doing a bunch of math, it seems “by-and-large”, the weight is a bit lighter as the older they get. I would almost think the opposite. Is is possible water content plays a role??..

Oh absolutely, the wood gets increasingly drier over the years. Some of these 100 year old examples have likely lost around a quarter to a half pound, possibly more.

Case in point - a few years back Fender had a line of torrified ash Teles and Strats. The weights on these guitars were crazy light... the Teles were often in low 6 pound range, strats in the upper 6. On average, nearly a pound lighter than you would typically expect.

That metal resonator has only ever been surpassed by a Les Paul 9lb 2oz and a 70s Precision Bass 9lb 5oz .

Is it a family heirloom? Any story to go with this 00-30? What’s its b/s made of? Any pictures of its back?
I bought it a couple years ago from CA. Was originally sold by a Sacramento dealer. Looks all original including shellac, ivory bridge pins and tuning pegs. No cracks or separation in the ivory binding.

Brazilian rosewood.

My 1963 Martin 0-16NY weighs in at a svelte 3lb 5oz.

My Emerald X20 is 4lb 6oz of carbon fiber loveliness.

Don't we need to know how much they each cost per oz.?

Perhaps an exciting new thread!

Less warranty repairs on the later. And no, there is not that much water in the guitar that it would be noticeably lighter over time.

I went ahead and weighed my two Eastman guitars specifically because they feel heavy. They sound great though. I’m just not sure what it is about the bodies that make them weigh so much. You can almost feel it being centered down by the tail block.

E10D-TC - 4.9lbs
E10SS - 4.8lbs
HD28 - 4.3lbs
OM28 (w/ K&K) - 4.2lbs
