Well, just this year I've bought and sold a Waterloo, Yamaha, and Collings. I know am thoroughly enjoying my new Gibby! Will it last? Who knows, but I did promise the wifey that there will be no more guitar buying in 2021.

Nothing! Once you're on AGF this is what folks do ! Shopping, researching, buying, selling, trading is fun -- but don't forget to take time to enjoy the guitar(s) you do have ! Many of us are afflicted so you're among friends!

Happy strumming!

I think it is just human nature. The saying that the grass is always greener on the other side of the road didn't come about because it isn't true. Rationalize all you want, there might be something better gets the better of most of us.

I have a feeling you're going to be enjoying your new D-28. They're fantastic guitars. You were just trying out guitars until you found the right one for now.

2, Does your wife panic when you walk by another woman?

It's one of three things:

1. GAS

2. GAS

3. GAS

GAS Vaccine Concerns!

I read where a guitar player got the GAS vaccine and now when he plays his Martin D-18 it sounds like a Esteban! My wife is nagging me to get it but I would hate to have my Taylor 717, that I love, to suddenly sound like a uke. What do you guys think? Are you freaked out about the ill effects?

Best,
Jayne

You can go to the checkout any time you want (as you have already discovered) but you can never leave (as you are now discovering).

It's like I just can't stop myself, and I'm on auto pilot or something!!!

They are all great guitars, but I find one little thing that bugs me, and start looking for something that I think might be better.

Will this ever end?!?!?!

Does anyone else have similar compulsions?
Most of us buy a guitar, struggle withit for a year o so, then upgrade and work with that for a year or two, then upgrade and so on until we (more by lick than judgement) discover what suits us best (that probably took about forty years for me - you are just saving time.

Default The Cure for Escalating GAS

There is a cure for your escalating GAS - but it is not easy!

Sell your Martin D-28.

Buy a Yamaha FG830 for about a tenth of the cost (you can substitute any sub $500 guitar here).

Learn to play it well; really well. To the point where you are playing at a late night session at a bluegrass festival and the guy standing next to you with a Martin D-28 says "Gee, that guitar sounds really sweet" and askes to have a go at playing it.

Result = end of escalating GAS

I've played and studied traditional noter/drone mountain dulcimer for many years. And I used to play dobro in a bluegrass band.

With common sense like this, we could actually get to the point of practicing so much that the only section on the forum that would be useful would be Show & Tell!

Best,
Jayne

I've never met a perfect anything -- person, car, movie, job, career, guitar, capo, pick, strings. I've found everything in human existence has its drawbacks. The closest I've come to perfect is my new eight-month-old grandson.

As I've gotten older (and, I hope, a little wiser) I've learned to let go of a lot of things. One of them is perfection. And that has made for a good life.

Good luck in your search,
scott memmer

What you really want is to play better. GAS is the diversion you are using to put off that reality. You don't really know a guitar for months. Take your money and invest it in yourself with some lessons. Then, don't play, practice.

Yes, and I went through some nice guitars
But, you will know when your done, a guitar will make you smile and it will call your name until you pick it up again
