Cool How does a big hole on the back affect sound...

Saw this ad for an Ibanez guitar.
Probably due to damage, there's a huge cut out on the back.
I guess it won't affect plugged in but it'll be really weird to play it with your belly inside...
Thoughts?

Think of it as a soundport and you'll be fine...

Move it around on your belly to get a "wah" effect

Makes fitting a pickup far less fiddly!

Post the ad, or just ask them.
My guess, damage. The shape is too weird to be a deliberate attempt at anything.

Never lose a pick again. Hide beer when playing in dry venue. Nice feature.

The body of a guitar is only for looks and to support the neck. This is all you need.

Some people are not all that bright - probably put a hole in ( who knows how )
so they cut away the surrounding area -then made up some lame excuse for cutting up the back .

I am constantly amazed at the new and innovative ways people find to ruin perfectly good guitars.

Well, it may very effectively reduce feedback when plugged in....that is the good news. Likely will sound pretty thin acoustically.

Easy to change the battery. Clever.

Right. The guitar will definitely lose some outward projection, but it might help reduce feedback.

Pack of crayons, the wah effect you perhaps jokingly described will, in fact, take place. One of the instruments that I play is banjo, and when it’s an open back banjo you can get exactly that effect.

When you look at photos of Pete Seeger taken in concert you’ll notice that he always angled his open back banjo away from his body. I always thought he was striking a pose, but once I started playing banjo myself I realized that he was holding the instrument that way for tonal reasons, so he could get a consistent sound.

The same principle would apply to this guitar.

A hunk of plywood ( stained to match the body of course) and a little duct tape, should fix it just fine.
