Default The Reluctant 10 year old NGD

The is a belated New-Old stock guitar day, for I had it for a little over a month now. When I first was offered the guitar I was reluctant. It needed a neck reset. Not just the typical up and down pitch type of reset but also a yar side to side reset. The dealer put it aside to get it fixed but it remained in storage for 10 years. Also, The tuning machines were a bit tarnished.

Regardless, the guitar was offered to me at a price that more then made up for the issues, and an agreement was made that it would not be a problem to return the guitar if the issues more expensive to fix then anticipated. Being that it is a bolt on neck the neck the reset was not a major issue.

I got the guitar and off it went to my local go-to guitar tech, who also happens to be a builder (Ken at mountain song guitars).

When I got it back I was blown away by the sound, playability, and overall vibe of the guitar. I am now the proud owner of a Stonebridge aged top OM33-SR Deep body burst guitar. I’m so glad that I took the chance.

Beautiful! I wouldn’t have know it was a bolt on neck had you not said it was. Congratulations!!

Stonebridge was the American and English badge for Furch, made near Brno in the Czech Republic. They are superb instruments, a lot of guitar for the money. They are lightly built but the bolt on neck makes it easy to deal with neck-related issues.

I’m delighted you managed to get it sorted! It looks lovely - Furch/Stonebridge make amazing OMs.

If I saw that guitar hanging on a shop wall, I'd reach for it with a good amount of enthusiasm. Nice.

I was never a fan of the Furch sunburst but it does look sweet on the smaller body OM without the pick guard.

Nice find! Naturally aged, but still new. The edge burst combined with that purfling and binding has a nice vintage look. Glad it sounds great! Congrats.

Actually, what I forgot to mention was this guitar has undergone the Furch proprietary aging process. They stopped doing it several years ago because of cosmetic issues. At a close look you can see the effect. The top kinda looks dirty, but the burst masks it. So artificially aged in addition to the 10 years of naturally aging...it sounds fantastic.

We have a Furch OM-23sf (spruce, flame maple) with the aged top; looks and sounds amazing and was the start of our love for Furch - we now have three, the maple OM plus my OM-34sr and my Green Plus D12 SW (spruce walnut).
