Tony Joe White tuning for More to this than that
I'm trying to figure out what tuning Tony Joe White used on More To This Than That. Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like Drop D (standard with the low E dropped to D).
It could be played in another D tuning as he’s mainly riffing off the low D on the lower strings and up between the 5th and 7th frets, but a clue to Drop D is at 0:13 and 2:24 when he plays a more typical chord, a classic hammered-on minor 7th. I only know him through Polk Salad Annie, but if you can know someone from one song, he doesn’t strike me as an altered tuning kind of a guy , so Drop D might probably be about the extent of it. Have fun with it. |

Let's expand beyond Polk Salad Annie.

Wow. Thanks for posting. I had no idea he wrote Rainy Night in Georgia. I thought Polk Salad Annie was a career song, and he came through so strong on that one that I’m both amazed and not surprised that he was capable of much more.

He's from my hometown, Oak Grove, Louisiana, so I've always kind of followed him. He was a talented guy.

Check out his "Swamp Rap" on youtube, it's from Austin City Limits from about 1980.
Would one somebody please add a link to this video? That's a skill I haven't learned... Thanks!
