Default New Shop on the Way (oh, and a new house too...)

I'm going to be taking some time away from guitar building so I can build a new house and shop next year. Just wanted to let folks know that I have a couple of open build slots before I start working on the new place. After starting the house, my wait list will move out into 2017. For anyone on the fence, now's a good time.

There's a lot to do before we start building but the plan is to start excavation in the spring. I'll be doing pretty much all the work on the new place so I'm not expecting to be back in the shop until spring of 2017.

Building a new house and shop will be an amazing project! I have seen the views from your lot and combining that with your elegant sense of design and craftsmanship, it should be truly spectacular when its done.

Those of you on the fence should jump on those build slots...

Indeed. It's a big job just getting plans permits. Feels like the building part will be easy. I built houses before building guitars and I'm looking forward to building one more. Last one I built was the one I'm in now and that was 16 years ago.

It's about 20 minutes south right where the Chuckanut Mtns. end and meet the Skagit Valley farmlands. Have you driven down Chuckanut?

Thanks, Bob. Collaborating with you was a great experience going into this. I'm working with an architect friend I've known since college and if this collaboration is half as enjoyable and successful as ours, I'll be pleased.

Congratulations and good luck, Kent! I know well how big a job it is to build your own house. It's something I'm looking forward to to again, when I come home to Washington.
There's nothing else quite like the experience of building your own home and shop, all the sweat equity you put in, and constantly getting pulled in to various avenues and byways, because ideas are constantly popping up, you're figuring out better ways to do things... Which sometimes means do-over... And how the vision changes as it becomes a real structure...

Turn a luthier loose with a worm-drive saw and a 20 oz. framing hammer, and watch what happens!
I hope you have some good, enthusiastic help coming. And best wishes for smooth sailing, successful sequences, and the home that you dreamed of, letting in the sunlight and keeping out the rain.
Good fortune all the way, Kent!
Steve

Congrats, Kent! A new shop is the best lutherie investment we ever made.
When it's done, and it will be a truck load of work, you'll love it.

What happens at my age is serious tendinitis! Already bought a 14 oz. Titanium Stiletto...

Steve, I enjoyed seeing the pics of your shop come together. Jealousy is a good motivator

Good luck with the new house and shop Kent!

Is that parlor you were building still going to mandolin Bros? I was hoping to try it out.
