Default Cocobolo/Sitka Stearn OM TAMCO Build

Hi All-

I reckon it is time for Stearn Guitars to get off the front porch and start hanging with the big dogs. Here is the beginning of a Stearn OM with Cocobolo back and sides, Sitka Spruce top, and (probably) bloodwood bindings for Trevor at TAMCO. Hope you enjoy the posts!

Sweet rosette!! What kinda wood did you use for it? Maybe lacewood? And dyed strips? Anyhow it looks great.

Thanks, Zeke. You are correct, lacewood with bloodwood. It's my first wood rosette; I really liked the bookmatched pattern I had from a chunk of lacewood I had so I thought I'd try it out.

Well it turned out great. It'll tie in nicely with the proposed blood wood binding. Can't wait to see what else you have up your sleeve on this one.

Really like the wood rosette! You're moving up in the luthier world and continue to amaze me with each new guitar. They'll be some very lucky owner in the UK in no time.

Another comment from the Spokane Corner......

Looks great! I take it you're a fan of stiff backs. I'll have to try one sometime.

Hi Pat- Yep, I'm a fan of stiff backs and sides. I haven't tried double sides yet but I do use reverse kerfing. The radius on my backs are 6'...quite domed but with good results. Are you a stiff-back fan?

Not yet, but am looking into it.

Wow. 6 FT! That's tight!

Default Progress

Finally some progress after the holidays! This guitar is coming along with a batch of five so she's coming along a bit slowly.

Bending the sides with a little helper. (My son wants to see if the heating blanket is really as hot as I tell him it is!)

In the form

Back Radius Line

Planing down to the line

Glueing the back to the sides/ or vice versa

Ready to close the box!

The body, (with a bit of naphtha ). Next step, bindings
