Default cold weather and guitar shipping

Question for you luthiers who have shipped a guitar in sub zero temperatures. Any bad experiencs due to cold? My first handmade guitar is on the way--a 2 1/2 day truck trip in sub zero temps. The builder says it will be fine, and that french polish can take it. I just keep thinking about what water molecules do when that cold. And general contraction.
thanks,

The cold itself is not a problem but you want to avoid a rapid temperature change. If you let the guitar acclimate to your indoor temp for at least 24 hours before opening the case, you should be fine.

Kent's right on. You might make it even more gradual by:

1. Bringing it (still boxed) into your garage for some hours

2. Bringing it (still boxed) into your house for some hours

3. Opening the box top for some hours

4. Taking it out of the box (but still case-closed) for some hours

5. And only then opening the case. I'd reach in and feel the top and if it were still much cooler I'd close the case for another hour or so.

"Some hours" not definite only because it really depends on the gradations of temps... "Really cold" to some might be 30F; to others -20F!! And into some houses which are kept at 65F; others are kept at 85F and in a room near the fireplace!!

Some time allowing it to acclimate now will allow you to enjoy it for many years, so it's worth the wait!

Best! And pictures... please!

That seems like good advice, thank you. My problem may be finding some environment anywhere between 10F and 65*F, for that incremental warm up. For example, my garage is prolly 10*F right now. I'll manage.
thanks,
