Default The Emerald Doubleneck using both necks in a song

I had this song requested for a memorial service last week. Worked out the arrangement using both necks and the 12 is in the same key transposed to a higher voicing. This was acoustic into a Blue Spark Digital Mic through Garage Band. Just a little reverb there. I simply love this guitar how else could you do something like this.

Your playing of the doubleneck in this fashion and the tone of your singing are both very nice, Steve. I also quite like the melody of the song you're playing here. I find that your playing style is similar to mine, 'tho I generally don't use a pick. As a result, the tone you're getting seems brighter than I get, but that's to be expected.

I am doing similar things on the Chimaera for some songs I play. As an example, I go back and forth on the necks on "I'd Love to Change The World" by Ten Years After (Alvin Lee). In so doing, timing takes practice to make the neck transitions seamless. Playing the 12 for certain passages of songs just takes those songs to another level (whether or not the original was played on a 12, and in fact, the 12 makes them sound better). Very cool!

Nicely done, Steve!

Edit: I've been listening to this song a number of times now. It gives me chills…that's a good thing. I like your style. I just went and picked up my Chimaera and jammed along with you, playing lead lines on both necks. 4 necks jamming. Cool!

Edit 2: I had not heard this song before and after watching your vid, I just viewed Vince Gill's version. You do it great justice, Steve, and switching to the 12 when you did in the lyric works so well, as does the timing of the uplifting tone. Just wow!

I had never heard the song till it was requested for the memorial service, a couple of weeks ago. Luckily I feel in love with it and Vince has a few acoustic Utubes so I could learn it quickly. Very cool you are experiencing the same dynamics with your Chimaera. I have played it now so long that the two necks seem the norm and a single neck strange. It is wonderful to use it to shift the dynamics, when I change to it in Vince's song he is talking about Angels, and the 12 puts you there. Also I thought this Utube really showed its sweet acoustic voice. It really is hard for me to play my other guitars now as much, just seems like a unending love affair.

reposted from Macnichol's forum:

i really love this video! congratulations, Steve! it was really beautiful

it reminded me how the 'guitar walls' are recorded in Nashville. it is an interesting technique where the guitar player plays the same song dozens of times playing the same chords, but on different parts of the neck and on different guitars. then, they mix all together to get this trademark 'guitar wall' sound. you only played one guitar, but playing the same chords with different capos (and 12 strings!) is a wonderful idea to add excitement and texture to your music. i love it!

Ted, you need to think acoustic? Alistair could probably do this in carbon, but I think I am already past my pay grade. Martin would be all over it.

Steve thank you for new material to add into my song list.
You did the song justice and I agree hard to accomplish what you did, one would have to swap guitars mid song.

Just worked it out last night, seems my Ovation is just about perfect for this song and its harmonies as Vince Gill plays it.

That double neck of yours is one mean do it all guitar - perfect match for your skills it seems.

Makes me dizzy just looking at that thing Steve. I better stick to single necks.

Ted specializes in one neck guitars, you would think a Californian would be more with it? A puzzlement.
