An unusual warm spell is expected this weekend. That gives me spraying conditions, especially on Sunday.
I am scrambling to get the body ready for black nitrocellulose spray. The neck came out unbelievably well. Especially considering my usual impatience with final finishing. If I can get the body to look as good the results will please me greatly. Taking pictures along the way.

Aerosol write-up
I wrote a separate nitrocellulose discussion thread HERE
It's related to this specific project, but a more general interest topic, so I split it out separately, with links between threads, both ways.

Nearing completion. Finish work done. Loaded pickguard reassembled with some new hardware. Prep-ed for fret dress.
(terrible lighting, dusty from waxing and camera phone don't do it justice

Very nice! It's something to be proud of every time you open the case!

finished
Well last night my final tools and parts came in and I plowed through finishing up my refurbishment project.
I got some OEM-matching chrome fastener hardware that I installed. I had to put in a different batch of pickguard retainer screws (I didn’t like my former choice). I used my new 12” radius block from Stewmac (with sticky back 600 grit paper. Then I used a fret crowning tool. This worked well but needed a lot of cleaning after every fret. Then I polished up the frets. Then I dressed the fingerboard. Since this one is ebony scraping is the best technique IMO. Final shaped the nut blank, set the action, truss rod adjustment and adjusted the intonation with the Tune-O-Matic bridge. The best part was playing it for the first time. It was exactly what I was hoping for and exactly as I remembered my Sonex from three decades ago. It felt exactly the same. It just “fit” in my hands perfectly. I am so glad I did this. I tried to get used to a new Les Paul Jr. but it was a totally different feel and I hated it. This was exactly what I was going for. I take particular satisfaction in the before and after condition: Here are some befores: --- and some "afters"

Wonderful! I've had one or two "catching up with the past" projects and found them to be really satisfying.

Found this interesting video of The Edge playing this same model guitar.
This is what this guitar is like in action.
