Default Seymour Duncan Woody pickup....

I finally got around to testing this pickup on my Epiphone Dove guitar. I just plugged it in direct and it sounds great..,,,

Just for kicks I tried the Woody out on the Martin D35. Here again sounded great. I have a LR Baggs Lyric pickup also installed in the D35 so I tried doing an A/B test to compare them. The LR Baggs pickup was louder but also very bright sounding where as the Woody sounded warmer, when volumes were matched. I may buy a Woody for the D35.

I recognize this is a bit of a dated thread. But I have often wondered why the Woody doesn't get more love. I primarily have K&K pickups in my guitars. But there are a couple in which I use magnetic soundhole pickups. I have owned most of them (haven't tried Sunrise), and for me the Woody XL is the best of the lot and one of two I hung on to. I suspect that (strangely) the fact that it is comparatively inexpensive creates an impression of "cheap." It's fantastic. Seymour Duncan is still doing it as well as anyone.

I tried a SD Woody for a while and my guitar sounded like it was wrapped in a blanket.

I moved on to a Fishman Neo humbucker and then to a Sunrise for a few years, both much better but lacked the presence of a K&K Pure Mini, which I now use in just about everything.

I love the warm and semi unrefined sound I get from my Woody. Not built to bad either. What I dont like is cord sticking out of the front of my guitar The price of the unit makes it super approachable. Cant loose.

I would love to hear reports from folks that have used both the woody and sunrise. How they compare.
