I have a v-braced 322e (non cutaway) and love it. The 12 fret neck, Taylor's neck shape and the GC body make it very easy to play, especially on the couch. If you haven't had a chance to play one, you may find them to be un-Taylor like in that they are pretty mellow without a lot of overtones and on the quiet side. If your Ovation Folklore is bright, this would be a nice complement. I've had to move on from 14 fretters (hands and shoulder issues) and just picked up another Taylor 12 fret, a 612ce x-braced. Love that one too, though probably a little over your price point used.

My budget only reaches 2k and a bit more, so I'm looking for something which stays at that price.
I have the same wood combo (mahogany/blackwood) on my Taylor 324. It's a terrific guitar. I also have the already mentioned Martin 000-15sm. Another terrific guitar, just different.

The only 'best' is what suits you, personally. I have yet to find a 'best' 12-fret guitar, but this comes close and I bought one:

Wouldn't a 14 fret and a capo be more versatile?

For about $2000 USD, it's hard to beat an American-made Larrivee C-03R TE Tommy Emmanuel Custom Model or for about $1500 to $1650 USD, a Larrivee 000-40M Legacy Series or Larrivee 000-40R Legacy Series.

Actually the Folklore is probably the "fullest" guitar I've ever owned. I particularly hate words like "rich," "full" or "lush" when it comes to acoustic tone, since they don't really mean anything. But if any guitar deserves that accolade, it's my Folklore. Balanced and very resonant unplugged, with strong fundamentals and plugged in fills everything and has plenty of output with no harshness. My Ovation Ultra is definitely brighter.

Not the same. The soundhole and bridge on a 12-fretter are situated differently than on a 14-fretter, so just capoing ain't gonna get you there...

Although not 12-fret, while in my favorite shop buying my new Larrivve D-40R last week, I played a circa 1980 Ovation Balladeer Acoustic-Electric acoustically that a customer had in for an adjustment. It sounded so good, loud, and resonant that's it's got me thinking about buying a good-condition 1975 to 1985 Ovation Balladeer. American-made Ovation guitars don't get the love they should be getting!

I'm a fan of the Taylor GC 12-fretters. Loads of different wood combinations and I've not yet found any sounds in any of them that are not usable. They are the least typically-Taylor-sounding guitars in Taylor's stable, which is funny considering I like them the best.

Given the choice and everything else being roughly equal I prefer the old X-braced ones to the V-class ones but it's also not absolutely night-and-day - if I were out shopping and I found a V-class that absolutely sung then I wouldn't hesitate.

"Best" is a very subjective term and in the eye of the beholder/player/individual. I have 2 12-fret guitars and both are great in different ways. Both are custom - 2015 Larrivee (Notable) LS-03 silver oak and a 1996 Larrivee OM-09 (RW/Sitka). They are as different as day and night in terms of tone, how they play, and even body type, but both are quite special in my humble opinion.

I'm a 12-fret fan.

All the best with your search!

Cheers!
