Default Pitiful Reverb Scammer

I had a good laugh after receiving this message regarding an item I have for sale on Reverb:

"inquiry about for items and I have sent the Mom. Contact her email [email protected] so you can discuss on payment and pick up. Thank you

B B"

I am tempted to email BB's mom brooklynjane and negotiate payment just for sport.

Yep I received a similar response to my recent post. Person said they already sent pics to their dad and to contact him for purchase. Sad because I know some people fall for this stuff.

Oh, I think you should send the email!

Here's an idea for what to send:

Brooklynjane, BB told me you were expecting my email. Thank god!

I need you to bring me the following to the spot BB and I discussed ASAP:

* Change of clothes
* Blonde wig
* $5k in bills no larger than $20
* 10ft of rope
* A shovel
* A live squid

Tell me when I should expect to hear from you again. I'll explain everything later... if I make it.

Oh dear, that is a bad one.

Desperate individuals. Predators, too, of course, so they don't get much sympathy. But I'd rather be me, working hard and earning an honest wage and living comfortably, than live whatever life in whatever place that led them to this. So if i receive one of these I'm reminded that I'm still winning and am fortunate. I can't hate them too much.

Fun fact - good scammers tend to make their efforts a bit shoddy on purpose, because it filters out the smarter victims. If you fall for this, you're a grade-A moron and therefore likely to fall for the subsequent stages in which you share your bank details.

If these initial messages were too convincing, they'd have thousands of credulous responses from people who'd ultimately realise the scam, wasting huge amounts of effort and time for the scammer. Far more efficient to send this nonsense to 20,000 people with a simple bot, and then focus your efforts on the 3 people that fall for it.
