They have a very distinctive tone… look extra cool and both John Lennon and Tom Petty played one….

They have a wonderful sound that is unique to Ricks. I have been playing/owning Ricks since 1973, guitars and basses. To me, they are home.

They sound unique on slide...

...and even more interesting with an "h" in their name.

Their FireGlow finishes, split level pick guards, the coolest checkerboard purfling and of course the historic chime of Petty, Byrds and Beatles!

I’ve always wanted a 360 model.

Because you can afford one and you want one and because, who are you kidding, no one will probably convince you otherwise anyway.

Default Finish this sentence: One should own a Rickenbacker because...

...to my hands the 1-5/8" neck, skinny frets, and ultra-low action give it a playability second to none; the dual truss rods have kept the neck on my 360/6 dead straight with flatwound 13's (mine's strictly a rhythm box) for the last 35 years; it's light on the strap; the cool looks have already been mentioned - and although it only sees limited use it's not going anywhere...

I always wanted a Rickenbacker 360-12 in fireglow, so I did finally buy one quite a while ago. Something like this...

Most of what attracts Steve DeRosa to them are likely deal breakers to me, and then of course they aren't that common in the price range I look for when buying an electric guitar.

That said, I've always been a big Roger McGuinn fan so of course I wanted to cop that Rick electric 12-string sound. I ended up with a turn of the century DeArmond solidbody electric with Dynasonics and a neck I love, so I'm set there.

I don't know if the 12 strings have as narrow a neck (relative, most 12s are wider to accomidate the extra strings) as the 6 strings are said to have. I tolerate narrower necks on electric than acoustics, but there such a thing as too tight string spacing that I can't abide. Ditto small frets (or at least that's what my old finger joints tell me.)

Now on bass, oddly, I don't care for wider Precision style necks and the Rick bass sound is also its own thing. Still probably out of my price range.

The nut width on my Rick 360-12 is about 1 5/8" -- very narrow. It's one of the disadvantages of these guitars, although I have seen custom versions with wider nut widths.

Thanks for the comments guys!

With the 1 5/8" nut and small frets I think I'll wait until I can play one in person before buying. Sadly Ricks are as rare as hen's teeth here so that may never happen.

It has to be said - it's the only way to channel your inner Roger McGuinn -

He was still "Jim McGuinn" in this video. David Crosby does the introduction and sounds remarkably nervous or shy (there's a first and last time for everything).

Someone mentioned John, so let's not forget the quiet Beatle
