Instrumental suggestions?

Celtic or Celticish/folk? I have a bunch of stuff by Stephen Wake, Al Petteway, Masaaki Kishibe, some Ed Gerhard, El McMeen, Jim Tozier, William Coulter... I need some suggestions, books, single tunes etc. Right now I'm thinking about going back to some things I never finished, The Sleeping Tune, The Handing Down, but some easier stuff would be welcome too.

I wrote this for the passing of a friend. Shoot me a PM if you'd like to learn it. Beware, however, that it uses a partial (banjo) capo over DADGAD tuning (and using partial capos is a deep, deep rabbit hole...).

Hey Barry, I suspect you’ve heard of it but just in case. Ramble to Cashel is a collection of Celtic type tunes (including O’Carolan’s tune of that name) arranged and performed by a number of different artists that are known to “dabble” in the music. I believe Stefan Grossman is the publisher.
Lots of them are very approachable IMHO

Another suggestion: Stephen Bennett's 'Adirondack Lullaby'. Just a massively lovely tune in his Mel Bay 'Fingerstyle Collection' book...standard tuning with 5-string (drop 'E') capo on 2nd fret, as I recall.

Barry I’m sure you know 99% of all the stuff is out there. I have run across a few that may be a little more unknown.

Rob McKillop has a couple of very nice books of Scottish tunes relatively easy to play and sound great.

Ian Melrose has a nice book I’m forgetting the name but again nice arrangements.

Glenn Weiser has a ton of stuff. I think he’s mostly in standard tuning but he has hundreds of arrangements of Irish Tunes.

Ben Powell Has a fabulous CD and he has tabs for everything. he sounds a bit like Pierre Bensusan, but easier and less complex.

Jean Banswarth has three books of Celtic arrangements that are all very nice. mostly DADGAD but I think a few other Tunings.

And of course I have my Peghead Nation course that I’m teaching. The focus is alternate tunings but I’m mostly using Celtic tunes as examples. I think we’re up to 24 songs at this point, with many more to come.

And frankly at this point I’d suggest you start trying to arrange your own tunes. If you go to the session.org you’ll find every possible Celtic tune, melodies, simple audio to show you the tune. Just dive in and arrange your own.
