Harp Guitar
I'm looking to soon be in the market for a Harp guitar, and I'm very much a newbie.
What should I be checking out? Which Luthiers? If I decide to go vintage, what models and years should I be looking into? I really don't have a budget. |

Hey Tate! good to see you back!
Michael Greenfield built a harp guitar for Andy McKee and I have only heard good things about it. I have played a Greenfield G1 and it was quite spectacular! I'm sure others will tell you Linda Manzer but I have VERY limited experience with her guitars. Not sure about vintage.... Check out harpguitars.net LOTS of info there

Here's a couple more for you:
http://www.harpguitarmusic.com/ http://www.hollowayharpguitars.com/ http://www.tonedevilguitars.com/ There's expensive builds and the inexpensive route. I'm planning on the inexpensive but first there's a matter of a certain Bashkin (non harp guitar) that I've been in love with for the past two years... ;-) All the best! -jay

I will add Kathy Wingert to the mix. She makes beautiful harp guitars.
Here is a link to Stephen Bennett playing one of Kathy's harp guitars. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lI4xrmtPd10 Enjoy your search! Best, Jayne |

Also check out www.yourharpguitar.com. They have some entry-level 6+6 models and are working on a 21-string due out sometime this fall.
FWIW, you may want to have some kind of budget in mind. I've seen antiques go for as much as $40k. Custom builds seem to start at $8-9k and go up from there. I have a Holloway Model 5 that cost me $1800 including pickups and shipping. The case they use isn't the greatest, but it fits the instrument and does well for local traveling. I play it every day and it's done well for me.

You could go to the harp guitar gathering down in Dallas this November. I think it's $125 to get in for the weekend, but should be a good chance to sample a lot of makers' instruments, and listen to them in action in the concerts. I was thinking about going, but I think I'm too cheap to pay the entry fee on top of the travel expense, since I'll be building my own harp guitar so I won't be buying, and I haven't started on it yet so I won't be selling either Maybe next time though, depending on where it happens.

hi AF, did you get the you were previously looking for ?
http://www.acousticguitarforum.com/f...d.php?t=254608 or have you changed focus ? as so many are following in the footsteps of Michael Hedges why don't you get Steve Klein Transtrem Harp Guitar and go 'on the road' as he did

Harp Guitar
I second the recommendation for Kathy Wingert. She has a lot of experience building harp guitars and she plays them as well. Her guitars sound fabulous, and Kathy is a very nice person to work with.
Also, she also has some amazing, reserve wood set aside for customers like you that can afford it. |
