Just for a gag(s), how about a used Taylor 355 jumbo 12? Spruce over sapele. I've had one for over 20 years and it's still going strong. I do tune down a half step, but use a G7th Newport 12 string capo with compensated string pad on the first fret, and that half step away from 'standard' disappears. And that G7th model requires no re-tuning to use it.

355s are out there. A few clicks and one's yours for under a grand. Granted US$, but that's not a hard price either, even in pounds. See what can be negotiated.

Don

If you are considering buying a guitar at the moment, to stay safe, you may need to go new, in which case you will possibly miss out on the sort of 12 string second hand bargains there are to be had if you can shop around and wait a bit. Lots of people like Taylor (myself, I had a nice 354ce which I bought second hand for £700): a new 150e will set you back around £700 and I just spotted a 254ce for a bit less than your top budget. There are also Breedloves, Takamines and Yamahas to be had for your budget. As the owner of an American Guild f512 and a Chinese Guild GAD-JF30 BLD, unless jumbos are not for you, I'd say you couldn't go far wrong with one of the new Chinese Guilds - a 2512e in maple for less than half your budget, or a rosewood 1512, which can be had for £750 or a grand with a pickup.

As you are likely to be buying online, check out youtube for as many videos as you can. Once you get a shortlist, pop it in the thread as there will be someone with direct experience who can chime in with thoughts. Good luck in your search.

Look for a Guild D-1212, solid Mahogany, dual truss rod, dreadnaught.

Great sound, good playability, stays in tune, and, they're cheap.

I haven't played one but I've seen lots of good reports on that Yamaha ... and looking at those specs I can see why!

Decent body size, Spruce/Rosewood and all solid woods .. all things that go into a good acoustic 12-string guitar.

I was going to say, that link you posted took me to a Yamaha 12 string, not a Taylor.

I’m sure the Yamaha will be a good choice. Another brand you might look for in more or less the same price range is a Seagull. They sound great and play well for a very reasonable price.

Hope this helps.

I have owned one of these Yamaha guitars for about 3 months now.
So far, I love it!
Rich sound with more bottom end than any other 12 string that I have ever owned.

My only complaint is that it came with a gig bad, not a good hard case.
I did put it in a hard case though.

If you search around and are patient, you can likely get a used Guild jumbo 12-string in that price range. Well, it may have to be a JF30-12, but those are in the same ball park as the F412. Mine is spectacular and was less than $1000.

Thoughts on these

Seagull Coastline 12 Q1T Natural -£612 ( Made in Canada) ?

Taylor 254ce- £990 ( Made in Mexico these days ) ?

Takamine P3DC-12 £1018 ( Made in Japan I think ) ?

Guild F-1512 £798 Nat Westerly ( Made in China) ?

Just can't make up my mind. I could probably push to £1500 but I dont see many at this price they all seem to be £2500 upwards

I have a less blinged out version of the Yamaha LL16. Dollar-for-dollar, Yamaha's 12-string guitars represent one of the best values in a 12-string guitar as can be had, IMO.
Dropped a bone saddle and bone pins in it and had Elderly set it up - it plays (and sounds) like a dream.
