I can only tell you my experiences with such pickups is they need
Outboard gear to sound decent . Especially if you PA systems keep varying.
Keep in mind that he's using an *active* iBeam - it already has a preamp onboard that buffers the pickup and protects it from different sound systems, input impedance variations and so on. The issues people typically have with K&Ks is that they are passive, and need to see a reasonable impedance, because you're plugging in the raw pickup. They can also be more susceptible to long cables and so on. Same with Dazzo unless you've installed an onboard preamp. Active pickups are a whole different thing - the manufacturer has taken care of those issues for you, for the most part. It's always nice to have a preamp, and when plugging into a board, a DI is standard practice at a minimum, but with an active system you should not experience the same issues as people who use passive pickups. It's not the SBT aspect that matters, it's passive vs active.

Thanks I didn’t catch that the first read through. The output of the ibeam active Is only 600 ohms. According to the inter web .
That should Certainly be low enough to plug it directly into a pa. Using a reasonable length cord. Me I’d probably still use a di for the xlr out.

JonPr how long is the guitar cord you use?
