Looking very nice. I got to play a Froggy Bottom today with Tree and Adi. The Tree wasn't as strong a figure but the guitar sounded mighty nice. I think you're in for a treat. That wood just builds great guitars!

GAS-free post (no pics!)
Thanks folks - yep, that's what caught my eye to begin with... lovely quilted mahogany!
Sorry for no pictures since the spray booth! Mike did tell me the finish went on very well and smooth, and has been working at the buffing and final work before assembling. Mike suggested and we discussed and I agreed to go with a pinned bridge for a couple of reasons. One was that even with care, changing strings on the pinless is more risky to the top, since the cedar is soft enough that if one slipped there'd be a ding. And secondly, the bone pins will give a bit of sparkle to the tone of the cedar top. And thirdly they'll look really good in contrast to the dark tones of the top and rosette and back. So, bone pins it is, with the FWI nut and saddle. I'm heading over to Mike's shop on Friday to pick it up, drop off the brazilian CX, and have a shop tour (never too tired to look at wood sets!!!) and then will head back to the central (California) valley to catch El Conquistador's "Boomer" gig. Should be a great day, and I'll be posting some pics then that I expect will take our collective breath away! I may not get sound clips up for a few weeks but that will be the next step and the final posts for this thread. Thanks again for taking the trip with me! Phil |

I usually see builders masking off the bridge location so that the bridge is right on bare wood. Why not on this build?

Prutton's correct, Keith. I'm not sure of the reasons for the order, but Mike will remove the finish before gluing the bridge in place.
This link takes you to Mike's website where the build of a CX is documented pictorially. Images 152-162 show the process of placing the bridge. Cheers! Phil |

It's amazing how short the time frame is from the completion of the box bindings/purflings and the neck until it will be complete and in your hands. Mike must really be putting in the hours and focusing on your guitar.
I haven't had the opportunity to play a "The Tree" guitar, but I do really appreciate the tonal contributions of a dense mahogany. It's looking great, congratulations.

I was concerned that scheduling the pickup in person (rather than a normal "ship when complete") would add a hard, and unnecessary deadline. But I am actually flexible and conveyed that to Mike, so any unplanned delays could be accomodated. Mike has assured me he's been taking his time and enjoying the build, so all appears well!
