Default NGD: 2016 Gibson SG Standard T

I couldn't resist. Guitar Center sent me a 15% off coupon which put me over the edge.

Real nice - I had a first-run '61 RI myself back in the '80s; BTW, what neck profile are they using these days - mine had an authentic '60s skinny (~1-5/8") flat-C...

Fantastic!!! What a great guitar. When did the "T" join the Standard name?

Steve,
Neck is 1 11/16" at the nut. They call it a rounded profile. It feels like a 50's profile to me. It is fairly large, which suits me fine.

Dru,
For 2016 they have two distinct lines, the traditional (T) and the "High Performance" (HP). The high performance continues the 2015 specs which a lot of people (including me) absolutely hated. But I'm guessing they had a lot of left over parts they are trying to get rid of.

T for Traditional - that's the piece I was missing.

What a classic iconic guitar. I loved mine but couldn't keep it in tune. Oh I want another.

Gorgeous Gibson. I've had an interest in SGs for a while. One of these days...

For people with sore shoulders these are great guitars to play standing up. Very light, much lighter than Les Pauls.

I enjoy reading about the history of various guitar models. I bought "The SG Guitar Book: 50 Years of Gibson's Stylish Solid Guitar" a few months ago. Great reading, especially those early years.

No Back in Black sound bite?

I let my Guitar Center 15% coupon expire. I'm in the market for an Orang Micro Dark head too.

I had the same trouble with my SG Classic, which came with Grover-made vintage keystone-style tuners. I swapped those for an identical set of tuners that were Grover-branded (rather than 'Gibson') and they hold tune just fine now.

I noticed a slight difference in the mfg hallmarks...the "Gibson" ones had 2 hash-marks on the inside of the gear housing, like 'II' and the Grovers have 'III'. I inferred that the ones they supplied to Gibson were more cheaply made.

To the OP, nice axe...I wanted one ever since I saw the film of Carlos tearing it up in the Woodstock movie back in '71 or so and never got around to getting one until about 4 years ago. Mine has P-90s just like Carlos'.

Beautiful guitar!
