I have for my Taylor and it's really nice.
But I know they'll still find it tough on the hands/fingers with fairly regular use in the beginning.
It's really to get them started.
Once they fall for guitar, they will go in whatever direction.
But getting past the initial phase is key.
And if this helps, which I know it will, than I say why not.

I've got my Cordoba Fusion 12OV strung up with John Pearse Folk strings. It's very easy on the fingertips.

Link to FS in my sig. -edit- links were to offsite page, which I don't think is allowed. I removed them.

This may sound silly but have considered an electric? You can get decent ones for cheap and put 9's on for really easy fingering.

I suspect there aren't too many full-sized solid wood classical/nylon guitars that have narrower nut widths and that aren't "crossovers." There probably just isn't much demand for something like that.

As someone else suggested, your friends could try putting ball-end nylon strings on a steel string acoustic. It won't sound like a real classical, but it would do the job. Or, unless they're hands are really tiny, they could just try out a regular 52mm classical size nut. I don't really find that makes fretting chords any harder. In fact, in many cases, it is easier thanks to the extra space between strings.

I too would like a narrow neck nylon, but I want the classical sound. If I had the $600 I would get this:

Well I stand corrected! Looks like a nice bet for someone wanting a narrower nut.

I was under the assumption that a crossover was defined by a 1 7/8 nut and a radiused fretboard?

The Yamaha NTX700 does look pretty good. It would be a tough choice between the Cordoba Orchestra 12 ($600) and the Yamaha NTX700 ($500). I think the Cordoba is prettier but ...
