Default 90 days to fretboard freedom

There was some interest, so let's do this. If you're in, comment below...

If you think knowledge will somehow hurt your creativity...please join us!

Assignment one: pick one tuning to work with. I think standard is best, but if you prefer something else, go for it.

Part 1. Write out your fretboard diagram...every note, every fret (at least 1 thru 12) every string, every day this week. Actually physically write it out. No need to be anywhere near a guitar.

Part 2: spider fingers...on each string, play open, 1st fret, 2nd 3rd 4th, open index middle ring pinky...say the names of your notes as you play them. Then backwards, pinky ring middle index open...At least 3 times a day. Morning, after work, before bed...or whatever. But at least 3 times.

Part 3: keep playing songs and having fun and doing your normal stuff. This stuff is a supplement to making music, not a replacement.

I'm in.

I took a music theory class in college and loved it.

I fully believe that mastering this is essential. I've practiced different methods.

But, I know that there are no shortcuts and it is truly just pure brute force repetition and this is a great motivator to do so, within each other's view.

"90 days"??! Huh, way too long! I learned from this book:

(Yeah, 53 years later, I'm not quite there yet. Of course, Mr Weedon was careful not to say which "day" it would be....)

Cool, we got a couple of people...

So I've mapped it out pretty much, I might adjust as we go, I'll try to keep it bite sizeable and post some new stuff every week. Looking at a 13 week crash course.

And then everyone else can feel free to post questions, findings, or just talk about what we're doing. It'll be like a support group or something.

Not sure if this will help folks do their daily "write notes down" task.

I extracted the blank fretboard document from my comprehensive scales spreadsheet.

You might print these and use them for daily practice or even practice writing them on your PC?

Nice job!

Personally, though, I'd prefer a more direct visual map, and then print out a whole load and use pen (if confident) or pencil (if not). Lots online, such as: https://www.accomplicemusic.com/blank-fretboard/

Don't they make an app for this to make it easier?
Okay, I'm new, but I'll play along too.
