Preparing Sides
Hello,
I cut out the sides today and brought them to thickness. Then into the bender. Thanks for looking!

The headstocks you make are one of my favorite designs.. both the pillow top and the slot head. Really nice

Thanks! The mock-up slot head I tried seems to have worked out well. I've got the string clearance and managed to keep the basic profile of my regular headstocks

Logo
Here are some pictures of how I do my labels. I had a branding iron made of my "H" logo. I don't put logos on the headstock and I really like the wooden label idea.
Thanks for viewing!

Hi,
Here are a few pictures of the bent sides in the mould. This is a first glimpse of the body dimensions.

This is looking really nice. Beautiful Koa!
I'm thoroughly enjoying your documentation, and am intrigued by your bracing. Looking forward to more... |

That is some really nice wood.
Not only is the figure great but the colour of the wood is standout. The trees look almost identical to Australian Blackwood, obviously the wood does as well. Lovely guitars as well. |

Nice build board, even the dowels look quarter sawn, some with alittle runout?

MBP, I haven't tried building with Australian Blackwood. I know they are both Acacia trees and people say the Blackwood is a little more like rosewood. The woods do look very similar. Bruce, if you think about it, when cutting a dowel along the grain it's kind of easy to get quartersawn, but then you're also getting flatsawn depending on the roll of the dowel Thanks again everyone Mark

Hi,
I drew up the neck profile for the Crossover this morning and selected the Mahogany to cut the necks from. I cut them from the same board and tried to keep the cuts close so the necks match as well as possible. The neck profiles are very similar with the exception being the headstock is a bit thicker on the Crossover. Here's some pics; Hope your enjoying the thread! Thanks, Mark

Mark, nice work with the old bandsaw, your woodworking skills are inspiring as are some of the other builders on this forum.
You said you were a long time woodworker and is shows on your builds and your methods of work. I went back to reread your 1st posted build, amazing how much more understanding of the work the second time through you get. I'm in the process of reorganizating my shop space and building some of the needed guitar building tools. It's somewhat a PITA and taking longer than I thought since I decided to do some of the things that I've put off for years. If I don't build such a hot guitar atleast I have an improved more efficent shop for my other woodworking projects. Speaking of non guitar work, do you have some pics of some of the other woodworking projects you've done? If they are anything like your guitars I'm sure alot of us would enjoy looking at some of them. Bruce, |
