Favourite 50s Mainstream Classics?
I wondered if anyone has a list of their favourite 50's classic songs.
It's an era that is little played on radio here and I would'nt know where to begin in delving in. I am familiar with Presley but little else from that decade. |

Oh man, you really things opened up to a lot of good music and some not so good that has long since been forgotten.
Depending on your tastes, there was a bit of everything. Holdovers from the 40’s, popular and often syrupy stuff by crooners, Big Band and orchestra stuff, Rockabilly, real Country and Western, Gospel, Jazz, Rhythm and Blues, the Blues, the birth of Rock n’ Roll, you name it. Mainstream Artists I liked are all over the board. Since I was born in 1949, a lot of my first exposure to fifties stuff was from around 1955 forward but I have recollections of earlier offerings as well. I can’t get into the songs; there are way too many but artists I liked (and the list is way too long for here) include: The Everly Brothers Ricky Nelson The Coasters Connie Francis Buddy Holly Pat Boone Nat King Cole Fats Domino The Platters Perry Como ...the list is endless

Rokdog49 has listed many of the artists. Not sure what genre you are looking at but if it is rock and roll, hard not to start with Chuck Berry.

Not a fan of 50s music, in general, although I've heard over so-called Nostalgia radio format a number of songs from the early 1950s that I've enjoyed.

The '50s were as prolific as any other decade. Miles Davis, Frank Sinatra. Thelonious Monk, Ray Charles, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, John Coltrane, Dizzy Gillespie, Patsy Cline, Tony Bennett, Johnny Mathis, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin.............the list goes on, and on.....and on and...
Back in the days when every great singer or band sounded completely different than every other singer or band. |
