Default Covering Maybellene by Chuck Berry

I wrote this arrangement many years ago, but until the moment I played it on a 12 string guitar it was just so-so.

Here's my 2004 recording of Maybellene (from A Tale To Tell) done on a 1970 Guild F-212 with a bottleneck overdub on my 1930 Gibson L-5. Enjoy!

Hi Garrison,
Glad you enjoyed the track!

The 12 string is clearly being fingerpicked/fretted all the way through the track.

The slide doesn't come in until after the 2nd chorus, and as I said in the original post the bottleneck overdub is done on an old Gibson archtop.

Hi Howard,

This was the first recorded song by you that I ever heard going back quite a few years now, and I was so taken with your rendition that I purchased your album. And then I purchased all the rest of your albums over the last few years.

I love the way you do this song, Howard!

If you're outside the US it may very well not be available, sorry. I have no idea why that happens at various times.

We see the same thing here on occasion.

I don't host that particular 'video' of my recording, by the way, but tell me if this is playable where you are:

This is from my own Youtube page.

I'm also pretty sure you'll be able to hear the preview of Maybellene on my retail website listing. It's on my 'A Tale To Tell' cd, track #10

Thanks,
Howard

That's a fun-to-hear arrangement. I like that you dropped the C in there. Congrats.

Glad you enjoyed it!

What do you mean by 'dropped the C'? Do you mean the C (VII) chord between the I7 & IV chord?

The 12 string is in dropped D tuning, and the L-5 bottleneck part is in open D.
