Default We all owe him

Ross Lowell, the creator of gaffer tape, dead at 92

More HERE. Well, at least I owe him.

I remember the first time I got to use real gaffer's tape. I felt pretty important.

If you can’t fix it with Duct Tape, it’s broken.

Gaffer tape and Duct tape are two completely different ducks...ask anyone who's used Duct tape thinking it was Gaffer tape. Don't ask me how I know...

People sometimes look at me funny when I say that, in 1975, the USS Casimir Pulaski (SSBN-633) was held together with duct tape - but, I was there - it's a fact. It was called "EB Green" - the EB stood for Electric Boat (shipyard) and that was the best duct tape I ever used. It would stick to almost anything - and, stay there.

Ah, but the beauty of gaffer tape is that it doesn't stick forever and leave behind that awful glue residue.

Now that is what I was going to ask (never having use Gaffers ) that would indeed be useful . But does it hold fast when used (like Duck Tape) ?

Ross Lowell must have been a Jedi Master.

His tape is like the Force - it has a dark side and a light side and holds the Universe together.

Yes is does. For instance, you can use it to hold down a mic cable to a carpet to reduce the risk of tripping and it holds well. But once you pull it up, it doesn't leave the gunk on either carpet or cable.

I worked for EB for a year. Didn't use the tape though...

I wouldn’t do this with duct tape.
