What I don't like is when it's a new post on an old thread that is maybe post #87 and you have no idea what was said in the previous 86 posts from years before. Do you want to read for 10 minutes to get up to speed, or, just ignore the thread? If poster #87 had started a new thread instead, on the same subject, he would have got lots of posts.

I will sometimes ask a question, and watch for people's opinion on a subject. I may or may not add anything else, I already have my own opinion and am simply curious what others may think.

It feels stupid to me to thank every single answer.

I would think a discussion forum would be open for discussion up until it was closed.

Maybe they do. They have to start a new thread about it to comment, though, because the other one is not new, and the OP could be gone already.
