I'll second anyone who recommended Tom Lehrer and Jake Thackray.
Here's my favourites of both: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6npVZoke66s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FE-BKrAAZGc Great documentary on Thackray, a true comic genius and sadly missed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEkKwYUDPwY My band supported him once in the mid-70s and I havent laughed so much in my life (before or since). People were literally rolling on the floor, and at one point he had to say "settle down now", it was getting out of hand. Mind you, pretty difficult to cover his songs without that characteristic delivery. That's the issue with comedy songs - you need to have the skills of a comic to deliver them properly.

I haven't read the entire thread so pardon me if this one has been mentioned. John Denver's "Saturday Night In Toledo Ohio" is pretty amusing and can be "hammed up" a little

I mixed FOH for a Dean Friedman show the other night. He's got quite a few clever/funny songs.

If you want to get crude, look up The Nyphomaniac song by Pat Dailey. I think the actual title might be Rich Dumb Young Nymphomaniac.

I compose songs and tunes, and a few years back I wrote "Bernie Made Off With The Money Blues". I performed it many times with my old band and it always got very good audience response. It's free to use if you like, do copy down the lyrics because the final verse isn't recorded in the mp3.
https://www.banjohangout.org/myhango...ic.asp?id=3035 I think that will get you there... |

Used to go see John Valby. He had a lot of amusing songs, but they were likely too far on the dirty side for the gig.
Edit: appears to be still alive and performing. Have not seen him advertised since the 70s. |
