Looking good!
Kind of a shame to have all that hidden inside....so clean. It could just be the angle, but I'm not seeing the fan on the fretboard. Is it just my eyes or did you change your mind? |

It is absolutely Fanned and I believe very visible on the picture. I didn't change my mind. It will still be 635 - 660mm

If it is notched and capped with an ebony cap on each joint, then this bracing does not appear to be floating any more? It nay then share greater affinity with Michael bashkin's x braced back that also uses wood veneer caps or greenfield's halo braced backs?

The main back brace (over the joint of the back) is still floating as it doesn't touch the back directly, but only through all the other braces. The ebony, or in my case rocklite cap on top is just to secure the whole thing mecanically and add strength.

Rocklite
What is rocklite? Pardon my ignorance...
Mighty pretty work and I always love the amount of individual Luthier innovations that seem to appear over some careers! Thanks again for sharing! Paul

Rocklite intrigues me as it looks great and is a sustainable alternative.
I'm considering it for a future build for both the binding and the fretboard. I see now that they produce a rosewood variety as well as their ebony one. From their website: "Rocklite is a man made product, engineered entirely from real, sustainable wood.it is NOT vulcanised paper! Rocklite is designed to replicate exactly the beautiful exotic hardwoods, whose very existence is now so endangered by excessive and in some cases illegal logging. Thereby offering a sustainable and Eco friendly alternative to the relentless march of the logging companies, further into the rain forests of the world."

Little update.
The body is finished now, time to work on the neck. Since I'm going to use quite a lot of various and wide open tunings on this guitar (which is also why I decided to go for a fanfret), I asked Joel to make a really stiff neck so that the variation in the strings' tension don't make the neck move too much. I'd rather not have to touch the neck and adjust it each time I change from a tuning to another. Joel make his own carbon fiber rods that he inserts in his neck. It's very light and super stiff which is great ! Only problem is that he ended up with a hidden knot in the Mahogany block of the neck. This was not possible to detect prior to shaping the neck. Joel wants all of his guitars to be right and perfect so, he'll start again and make a new one, saving both the fretboard and headplates in the process. Slot for the carbon rod : Carbon rod inserted : Gluing it all together Bad luck with this hidden Knot :

The guitar's looking great. Too bad about that knot - with the CF reinforcement that Joel does, there's a fair bit of engineering in the neck blank prior to the fretboard/head veneers going on, but at least he'll be able to save the fretboard and head veneers.

Looking good...
As for the bridge material, What is bois du rose? My knowledge from French class seems to translate it simply to rosewood. Correct? If so good! RW are more resonant and will do a good job transferring energy down!
