Default Augustine Black low tension....

I put a set of these on last night and although they need stretching time, what I heard from the trebles I liked. Anyone try these?

Augustine Black Classics are a fantastic lower tension nylon string option. The basses are low tension and the trebles are medium. Trebles have a very nice tone. I have a set I'm going to try on a new-to-me Chris Carrington spruce/rw. Very comfortable under the left hand.

Agree the Augustine Classic Blacks are a very nice set of strings.

Edit: I do think that the trebles have a special quality, as compared to most
other nylons. The basses can be really nice too, but they do tend to mark
and wear quicker than some others. I'm using the sixth string from that
set at the moment, FWTW.

Default Nice strings

I really like these blacks, especially on a very responsive guitar. Good price also.

Was unfamiliar with this make of string. I looked into them. Apparently the Augustines made these strings to Andres Segovia’s specifications in 1946.
I’ll give them a test drive. Thanks for the heads up.

I've never tried low tension strings. I might give them a try in my next order.

Augustine Actives medium tension are nice strings too.

I'll try those too. TRose sent me a nice selection of strings to try out too. Aquila Rubino, Aquila Albastro, Savarez 520R and a set of D'Addario Pro Art normal tension. Thanks again, Tom, for the strings.

Curious about your opinion of the D'Add Pro Arte normal tension, if and when you try them, as compared to the Aug Black Classics. I like both of them,
though they're quite different: to me the D'Adds are drier, less overtoney (basses and trebles),
'smoother', play in tune slightly better. ATM, I'm using that EJ45 set, except
substituting a Knobloch medium carbon third (very nice) and an Aug Black sixth. I think the Aug trebles are higher in tension, and the basses lower, despite the nominal ratings found here and there. If the Aug trebles were the same tension as the D'Adds, and played in tune as well (on my guitar), they'd
be my first choice.

Adding: "smoother" (D'Adds) is not meant as generally better. To my mind and ear, the slightly higher tension of the Aug Classic trebles diminishes their better qualities enough that I prefer the D'Adds. I don't want the guitar to sound like
a (god forbid) piano..

I have the J45 lined up to be tried next. I'm going to use these Blacks for a couple of months first though. Once my playing on classical gets more consistent (in about 2 months) I plan on doing a recording of a few measures of the same thing (not decided yet) with each set of strings I use to keep a sort of sound library of strings for reference.
