Default Action & Setup on a Taylor 110

Hi guys,

I just bought a Taylor 110 and the action is a bit high and the frets are a wee bit rusty. Just wanted to confirm this is what I need to do to set it up properly:
- Use steel wool to remove the rust. Is the movement in the direction of the neck or the frets?
- When adjusting the action, I have a few questions:
1) I understand that the neck should be straight before starting any other adjustments. Tactically, how do I check the relief of the neck with the neck relief gauge (I just bought one)?
2) After adjusting the neck, I believe the next step is to sand the saddle down double the amount of height desired to be reduced (e.g., if I want to remove 1mm, I would remove 2mm off the saddle). How much saddle is too low to adjust? Are there any specific measurements for the Taylor 110 that I can reference?

Did I miss anything else? any other precautions?

Thank you to the two people who sent a PM and an email. I was able to setup the Taylor 110 perfectly! I have to say it's one of the best feelings the first time you setup a guitar and you get it to play as you wanted!

The action was at 5/32 on the bass and treble side and the frets were rusted.

It's incredible how much better the guitar plays and looks after spending 30 minutes to refresh it. I used steel wool to clean up the frets, Dunlop fret board conditioner for the fret board, I sanded down the saddle to get the action at 3/32nds on the bass side and 2.5/32nds on the treble, and I turned the truss rod 1/4 of a turn. The guitar plays and looks literally like new!

Thanks guys!
